Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Job Summary Main duties of the job The EPR developer’s role is to support, design and deliver technical solutions for all Application modules used within the Trust. The primary role of this position will be to configure and incident resolution for CapMan (Capacity Management/Patient Flow) and Patient Portal UK (PPUK). The core system used is Cerner Millennium so experience in design and build on this application is paramount. Role includes design, build, testing, implementation and upgrades. Department adheres to strict Change Management protocols, which must be maintained by all staff. The maintenance of applications includes all interfacing between applications. The EPR developer is expected to progress through training and mentoring as well as by their own initiative. There is some requirement to work outside of normal hours to perform upgrades, fixes and implementations. EPR developers must have an all-round technical ability with a flexible attitude / approach to work to resolve problems and meet deadlines. This role is suitable for people that like a challenging role. This role is expected to take on other roles from within the department which may not be specifically detailed within the job description. This will enhance the candidate’s skill set and provide greater cover within the department. Please note: as part of this role you are are required to be on-call as per rota, paid per session. Person Specification Royal Free World Class Values Essential • Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values Education & professional Qualifications Essential • Educated to HND/degree level or equivalent in IT or one that majors in IT Desirable • Educated to HND/degree level or equivalent in IT or one that majors in IT Experience Essential • Experience in the design and build of Electronic Patient Records. • Demonstrated analytical skills • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and willingness to contribute to all aspects of the job, including assisting with new systems implementation • Previous project experience. • Demonstrated experience of working with the NHS. • Practical experience in the design, build and implementation of Cerner applications. Desirable • Exposure to different operating systems and middleware products. Skills and aptitudes Essential • The ability to use one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, VB, SQL). • Experience in Cerner CCL language • Ability to maintain and implement handover documentation. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Excellent computing skills formed on a base of theoretical knowledge of a range of applications. Desirable • Experience in the design and development of custom Cerner mPages Physical Skills Essential • Highly developed physical skills to fulfil duties as there is a specific requirement for speed and accuracy • High level of skill required for advanced keyboard use to manipulate data with a narrow margin for error • Accuracy is extremely important particularly around coding clinical systems Personal Qualities & attributes Essential • Flexibility. • The ability to work with minimal supervision. • The ability to work well within a team, especially in times of stress. • The ability to identify personal training needs and where appropriate to achieve it under own initiative. Desirable • Fundamental desire to improve patient care through the effective use of clinical systems and be empathetic to clinical issues. Others Essential • An understanding of the importance of Electronic Patient Records within the NHS. • An understanding of interfaces. • An understanding of databases and SQL (or similar language). Desirable • Some exposure to / knowledge of AIX, Oracle and Windows.
